Your HP laptop was fine last year. Now it dies after 40 minutes, or it only works when the charger is plugged in. In most cases the battery is simply worn out, and you do not need a new laptop. You need the right battery.
The problem: HP uses many different batteries, and they look almost the same online. Order the wrong one and it will not fit. This guide shows you how to find the right HP battery in 5 minutes.
Step 1: Find the code on your old battery
Every HP battery has a short code printed on it. It is usually 2 letters + 2 numbers + XL, like HT03XL or CS03XL. This code matters more than the laptop name.
- Removable battery (older ProBooks): turn the laptop over, slide the lock, take the battery out and read the label.
- Internal battery (most HP laptops after 2016): the code is on the battery inside. If you are not comfortable opening the back cover, look up your laptop model on the sticker under the laptop and send it to us.
Step 2: Match the code to your laptop

Always confirm with the label. Two laptops with similar names can use different batteries.
Step 3: Check voltage and capacity
The voltage (for example 11.4V or 11.55V) must match your old battery. Capacity (Wh or mAh) can be the same or slightly higher. Never buy a battery with a different voltage.
